Chompsky - ADOPTED

Meet the Puppy

Chompsky was rescued by another organization as a young puppy in 2020, and adopted to a wonderful family. Unfortunately, despite all their efforts, Chompsky was just not the right fit for their young family, busy lifestyle, and very urban living. Chompsky was surrendered back to Walden Dog Training, the trainer who worked with him extensively prior to surrendering (and who adores Chompsky). Together, we are looking for a new home, and Chompsky’s next adventure!

Temperament & Needs

Chompsky is a quirky, smart, active dog. He’s athletic, and loves nature, the woods, hiking, and swimming. He would make an amazing trail or hiking partner in our White or Green Mountains!

Chompsky loves HIS humans, but he can also be a bit aloof and nervous around new comers. He also has moments where he prefers/requires solo time. He is not a major cuddler, but does love pets and attention on HIS time. He is also silly, happy, and very fun. He loves to play with dogs, but sometimes he loves it too much and needs breaks so he doesn’t overwhelm other dogs or himself. He cannot be around cats and small children, as his natural herding tendencies get the better of him.

He loves fetch and playtime, and he absolutely lives for his walks. He is incredibly smart, and can be easy going when a healthy structure is provided for him. For Chompsky to be a balanced dog, he needs as much healthy “off” time, as much as he needs that “on” time.

Chompsky does come with a human nip history that is tied into his heeler herding-like tendencies. We will provide more transparent details of his bite history to serious adopters. He WILL NOT thrive in a home that does not respect that he needs crate time for naps and overnight, that he needs exercise and mental stimulation, and ultimately, Chomsky needs structure, clear leadership, and activity to thrive. If you live in a busy house with lots of comings and goings, and you think this rules and structure stuff are not for you, then Chompsky is not the dog for you.

Chompsky has spent three weeks in a board-and-train, and is now being fostered by the same trainer. Those looking to adopt Chompsky will be REQUIRED to continue training with the same or similar trainer and methodology. THIS IS NON NEGOTIABLE. We have already invested financially and mentally, and implemented the foundational work of balanced training using a prong and Educator remote collar as communication tools (not corrective tools). He has thrived in this type of training! The first three sessions will be covered by us and will include teaching his new owners all that Chompsky has learned so far. Those not willing to continue this type of training, need not apply.

NEEDS

  • Chompsky is of the high energy, very smart breeds. He has a of energy, so he will be best suited to an to an active person or couple, willing to give them regular walks, runs, trails, and adventures, and plenty of playtime.

  • Chompsky requires a suburban or rural back yard. Traditional fencing is NOT required.

  • Adopters who loves to adventures on trails and in the mountains are preferred. Chompsky is meant for the trails!

  • Adopters must be willing to continue slip lead/prong/ecollar work with him. He’s thriving so much with the use of these tools, and is respectful of the clear communication they provide. *Remember the first three sessions will be covered by us!

  • As an organization, we prefer balanced training, and not “purely positive training.” Balanced training strikes a happy balance between a TON of positive rewards, but also rules, structure, and specific tools to set tone and boundaries for our dogs. We are firm believers that the more rules you have for your dog when they are young, the more freedom they earn as they get older. So set down expectations and boundaries for your dog now with a trainer and the right tools, so they can be part of all the family fun! Those with balanced training experience, and experience with slip lead/training collar/prong/remote collar as communication tools are preferred but not required!

Crate/Potty Training

All puppies and dogs rescued by FAVOR are crate trained, sleeping in the crate from 9pm-6am, and accustomed to some day crate time as well. Puppies also understand the basic concept of peeing outside, but there is ALWAYS a transition period where crate cries and potty accidents WILL HAPPEN in a new home, as the dog transitions to new rules and ways to communicate.

We always recommend keeping dogs crated during nap times, bed time, and when they are alone to protect them from danger such as chewing on cords, socks, and other objects. Foreign objects can get stuck in their stomachs which can result in a very expensive surgery. We also encourage using the crate like a bedroom for your dogs as they get older, where they can take naps, take a break from human interaction, and have a time out. More importantly, the crate provides them a safe place to go to when things get overwhelming, like a lot of people, loud noises, extreme weather. Think of the crate as their “den,” and a place for them to unwind. We all need a break sometimes!
